Corporate Social Investment (CSI)

Initiatives such as literacy programmes and community development projects highlight the Group’s commitment to social responsibility and sustainable growth. Dedicated CSI Champions within each company manage a variety of projects that address real community needs. These initiatives include food donations to local aftercare facilities for at-risk children, extensive annual Mandela Day activities, and ongoing financial support for local schools.

Talent Management

We also take our role of developing the next generation of agriculturists seriously – not only because we wish to employ the very best, but because we believe a stronger industry benefits us all. We believe in mentoring young people with a passion for agriculture, providing them with a view into this critically important sector through a hands-on immersive approach which includes internships and bursaries.

Our People

By prioritizing the well-being and professional development of its employees, Du Roi has fostered a culture of inclusivity, empowerment, and mutual respect. Our on-site childcare facilities, mobile clinics, women’s empowerment projects and a comprehensive wellness programme are examples of caring in action.

Sustainability at Du Roi Nurseries

At Du Roi Nurseries, sustainability shapes every aspect of our operations, from how we grow our plants to the resources we utilise. By embedding eco-friendly practices into our nursery processes, we contribute to a future where agriculture and environmental stewardship go hand in hand. Here’s how we’re making a difference:

Efficient Water and Fertilizer Management in Propagation

Water and nutrients are essential for plant health, and our nurseries take a precision-driven approach to their use. By employing advanced irrigation systems, such as drip irrigation and soil moisture sensors, we minimize water waste. Similarly, controlled fertilization practices ensure that nutrients are delivered directly to the plants, reducing runoff and environmental impact while maximizing plant growth.

Renewable Energy Integration

To power our nurseries sustainably, we have invested in solar energy solutions. Solar plants provide clean, renewable energy for our operations, reducing reliance on traditional energy sources and lowering greenhouse gas emissions. This commitment reflects our dedication to sustainability from the ground up.

Rainwater Harvesting and Storage

In our nurseries, rainfall is treated as a valuable resource. We’ve implemented systems to capture and store rainwater for use in plant propagation. This not only reduces our reliance on external water sources but also ensures that our nurseries remain operational during dry periods. It’s a forward-thinking approach that secures water availability while conserving natural resources.

Waste Management

Our commitment to the environment extends to waste management—planter bags, shade nets, and plastics are collected and recycled locally, while organic waste, primarily compost, is donated to support our local community’s agricultural needs. Together, these initiatives reflect our dedication to greener, more responsible practices.

Integrated Pest Management

We practice Integrated Pest Management, ensuring chemicals are used only when pest thresholds are exceeded, preserving natural predator populations and maintaining ecological balance.
